Sprat refers to a small fatty European edible fish. It usually smoked and canned like sardines. Smoked sprat is available in Germany, packed in containers. It is very delicious and

can be eaten straight from the package, but when I fried them, I was reminded of the Philippines' tinapa and the hometown of my grandfather, Marinduque. It is called in Germany "Sprotte" or Sprotten (plural)

It is also known as Sprattus, a Genus of small oily fish of the Family Clupeidae. They are commonly fried and eaten in British cuisine
