Pasteles refers to pockets of crescent shaped cornflour dough that are stuffed with meat and deep fried. Beside an everyday food, pasteles are also eaten at special celebrations and gatherings such as weddings, funerals and social events. Pasteles is often sold by the street vendors in El Salvador
