Frisee is a pale, bitter lettuce also called curly endive.
It is a curly, mildly bitter member of the chicory family, eaten raw in salads. It is a close relative of of chicory but with a more delicate flavour and slightly more tender leaves. The pale green leaves with spiky edges form a loose head.
