Meggy Leves refers to Hungarian "Sour Cherry Soup". Sour Cherry Soup is a delicacy in Hungary and many parts of Central and Eastern Europe. Meggy Leves is usually prepared during the hot summer months when cherry season arrives.
Meggy is the Hungarain word for "Sour cherry".
We have a sour cherry tree in our garden and it bears so many fruit and for me and my husband, summer means sour cherry harvesting". To to use all of the fruits we harvested, we both learned how to make Kirchmarmelade (Cherry Marmalade/Jam) which we always give out as our Christmas gift. For this summer of 2010, our sour cherry fruits is now ready for harvesting. Maybe it is about time for me to cook Meggy Leves.
