Beccaccino is the Italian word for snipe, a long-billed wading bird of Eurasia and North America. There are different kinds of snipes: (1) Gallinago snipes have a nearly worldwide distribution; (2) Lymnocryptes Jack Snipe is restriced to Asia and Europe; and (3) Coenocorypha snipes which are restriced to New Zealand.
