Matjeshering refers to a German food made of young salted herring, a kind of fish. It is usually eaten as a filling for a type of bread called Brötchen and served with Potato salad (Kartoffelsalat) and pickled cucumber (Salzgurken /Cornichons ) and also with sliced apples and onions.
