Slap Chips is the South African term for "French fries" which is usually soft, oily and vinegar-drenched, bought in a brown paper bag. Slap is the Afrikaans for "limp", which is how French fries are generally made in the country. Afrikaans is a West Germanic language that descended from Dutch and spoken mainly in South Africa and Namibia by about 10 million people.
