Yogurt

Deutsch: Joghurt / Indian: Thayer
Yogurt or yoghurt or yoghourt is a fermented milk product (soy milk, nut milks such as almond milk, and coconut milk can also be used) produced by bacterial fermentation of milk. The bacteria used to make yogurt are known as "yogurt cultures". Fermentation of lactose by these bacteria produces lactic acid, which acts on milk protein to give yogurt its texture and its characteristic tang.

Yokan (Yohkan)

- Yokan (Yohkan) : Yokan is a traditional Japanese sweet. It is a sweet jellied red beans paste. Yokan is often made from red beans, agar-agar and sugar and sold on block form. It is generally sliced before serving. Eaten with green tea.

You Tiao Shao Bing

You Tiao Shao Bing refers to Chinese bread served for breakfast - a fried cruller folded inside a fluffy sesame-sprinkled pancake, essentially a bread sandwich. Shao Bing are sesame pancakes which are served in some Beijing-style fried dumpling shops in New York where flat-bottomed woks are used to sear the dumplings. After cooking and out of wok, the pancake which is the size of a large pizza issprinkled with sesame seeds, hacked into wedges, dabbed with hoisin sauce and stuffed with braised beef. The crunchy sandwich has a flaky interior and golden crust with a flavor of a scallion.

Yuba

Yuba pronounced as yoobah is referring to tofu skin that is made from the thin film forming on top of hot soymilk by lifting it off and then dried in sheets or folded and dried in sticks It is used as a wrapper for ingredients such as spring or egg rolls, fried into chips, rolled and flavored, and in many other ways.

Yubu

Yubu are Seasoned tofu pockets in Korea. Yubu is often sold in an Asian grocery store in packets which include: Yubu (fried tofu packets), a vinegar-based sauce, and a packet of dried seasonings.

Yuca con Chicharrón

Yuca con Chicharrón refers to one of the popular foods in Honduras which is made of Yuca served with raw cabbage with lemon, then topped with Chicharrones, tomato hot sauce and Mojo, made with a mixture of oil, garlic, onion, spices such as oregano and bitter orange or lime juice. Yuca con Chicharrón consists of boiled pieces of yucca root mixed with raw cabbage and served with pork skin deep fried until it is crispy

Yuca con Chicharrón is side dish that is usually served with soups, Tamales, or Carneada (roasted meat). It can also be served as an appetizer.

Yufka

Yufka refers to ready-made very thin and delicate pastry dough or leaves used in Turkey and Greece for making sweet and savory dishes with fillings and stuffings, like Baklava and Börek/Boerek, respectively.

Yufka which are sold in plastic packs are sometimes available in big supermarkets. If a Turkish foodshop is nearby, Yufka will definitely be available. If it is not readily available, sheets of phyllo/filo dough can be use as a substitute.
