Sinigwelas / Siniguelas

Sinigwelas / Siniguelas refer to native plums found in the Philippines which only comes during summer season. They are eaten as is straight from the tree.

When I was a child summer is synonymous with Siniguelas. One of my favorite native fruits which I never ever found in all my travels.

Sinki

Sinki refers to a vegetarian food of Sikkim in India. Sinki is fermented radish tap root prepared during winter, when plenty of fresh radish are still available. Sinki is served as a good appetizer due to the high content of lactic and acetic acid developed during fermentation.

Siomai

English: Pork Dumpling / Deutsch: Schweineklößchen / Español: Empanadilla de Cerdo / Português: Bolinho de Porco / Français: Boulette de Porc / Italiano: Bocconcino di Maiale /

Siomai refers to Filipino version of dumplings. They are made from ground pork sometimes with additional ground shrimps, grated carrots and onions and salt and pepper.

Siopao

Siopao refers to a Filipino snack of steamed meat buns with meatballs or meat inside the bun, sometimes with added sliced Itlog na Maalat (salted red egg).

A regular Siopao is filled with meat and Bola Bola Siopao is with meatballs filling. To recognized which is which, the Bola Bola Siopao is always with a red dot on top of the bun. Quite interesting indeed.

Siraegi is the Korean word for "Dried Radish Leaves". In Korea, the leaves of white radish or Chinese cabbage are dired to preserve them through the winter and used later in soups, stews or seasoned side dishes. Dishes made from Siraegi (dried radish leaves) are: 1. Siraegi-namul (Cooked Dried Radish Leaf Namul ) - Dried radish or Chinese cabbage leaves that have been cooked in water, seasoned, and sauteed lightly in oil. Ground dried anchovies or sesames are some of the unique seasonings used to flavor this dish
